HURRICANE BERYL - Update #7 

Friday July 5, 2024 –03:00 PM EDT 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

 

Beryl has weakened to a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph. Tropical storm conditions continue over the northern Yucatan Peninsula. Cancun, Cozumel, Riviera Maya, and Tulum may still experience sporadic rain. 

 

**** MEXICO****  

  

Storm status 

  • All watches and warnings have been discontinued for the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula (Cancun, Riviera Maya, Tulum and Cozumel included). 

 

Hotel status 

  • Hotels are open and gradually returning to normal. No major damage has been reported, and cleaning efforts have started. 

 

Airport status 

  • Cancun International Airport (CUN) is open and operating normally.  
  • Tulum International Airport (TQO) is expected to resume operations on July 7. 

 

Amstar Staff 

  • Airport staff are ready to welcome and transport customers arriving and departing. 
  • Hotel representatives are on duty and assisting customers.  

 

Excursions/Activities 

  • Most excursions are expected to resume operations during the weekend

HURRICANE BERYL - Update #6 

Friday, July 5, 2024 –11:00 AM EDT 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

 

Hurricane Beryl, now a category 1 hurricane, is weakening over the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula. Hurricane-force winds, storm surges, and waves will affect the area for a few more hours. Hurricane and Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for parts of the Yucatan Peninsula. 

 

Storm status 

  • A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico from Puerto Allen to Cancun, including Cozumel 
  • A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico north of Cancun to Cabo Catoche 
  • A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula north of Cancun to Campeche. 

 

Hotel status 

  • All guests remained in their original hotels; no evacuations were needed.   

 

Airport status 

  • Tulum International Airport (TQO) is expected to resume operations on July 7. 
  • Cancun International Airport (CUN) is open, flights are now en route to the airport. 

 

Amstar Staff 

  • Amstar hotel and airport representatives are back on duty as weather conditions improve. 

 

Excursions/Activities 

  • All excursions remain canceled until Saturday, July 6.

HURRICANE BERYL - Update #5 

Thursday, July 4, 2024 –05:00 PM EDT 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

 

Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 2 hurricane, is currently 258 miles (415 km) east-southeast of Cancun and 276 miles (445 km) east-southeast of Tulum, Quintana Roo. It is moving west-northwest at 20 mph (31 km/h). The hurricane is expected to make landfall on the Yucatan Peninsula early Friday morning. 

**** JAMAICA**** 

 

Airport status 

  • Sangster International Airport (MBJ) is currently conducting restoration activities of the Airport’s systems and facilities following the passage of Hurricane Beryl for planned reopening of commercial operations at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, 2024. 

 

Hotel status 

  • Hotels have not reported any mayor damage.

**** MEXICO****  

  

Storm status 

  • A Hurricane Warning is in effect the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico from Puerto Costa Maya to Cancun, including Cozumel. 
  • A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico south of Puerto Costa Maya to Chetumal and the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico north of Cancun to Cabo Catoche. 
  • A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico south of Puerto Costa Maya to Chetumal and the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico north of Cancun to the state of Campeche. 

Hotel status 

  • As of this advisory, no hotel evacuations are expected. 

 

Airport status 

  • Tulum International Airport (TQO) is expected to resume operations on July 7. 
  • Cancun International Airport (CUN) is currently operational but is expected to suspend operations as the storm approaches.

HURRICANE BERYL - Update #4  

Thursday, July 4, 2024 –11:00 AM EDT 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

 

Hurricane Beryl is now a Category 3 hurricane. Currently, the center of Beryl is 50 miles southwest of Grand Cayman and is moving towards Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula which is forecasted to experience hurricane conditions early Friday morning between 3 and 7 AM, near Carillo Puerto, south of Tulum Airport, as a Category 1 hurricane. 

 

**** JAMAICA**** 

Storm status 

  • All storm warnings have been discontinued. 

Hotel status 

  • All guests remained in their original hotels; no evacuations were needed.   

Airport status 

  • Sangster International Airport (MBJ) and Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) remain closed. The airports are conducting assessments to determine when it will be safe to resume operations. 

 

 

**** MEXICO****  

  

Storm status 

  • A Hurricane Warning is in effect the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico from Puerto Costa Maya to Cancun, including Cozumel. 
  • A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico south of Puerto Costa Maya to Chetumal and the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico north of Cancun to Cabo Catoche. 
  • A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico south of Puerto Costa Maya to Chetumal and the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico north of Cancun to the state of Campeche.

  • As of this advisory, no hotel evacuations are expected.

  • Tulum International Airport (TQO) will close starting at 2 pm on Thursday 4, resuming operations on July 7 at 12 pm. 
  • Cancun International Airport (CUN) remains operating as scheduled.
  • Cozumel Airport (CZM) remains operating as scheduled.

HURRICANE BERYL - Update #3  

Wednesday, July 3, 2024 –3:00 PM EDT 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

 

Hurricane Beryl, a Category 4 hurricane, is approximately 45 miles south of Kingston, Jamaica. The eye of Beryl is on track to pass along the southern coast of Jamaica and will bring severe hurricane conditions to the island soon. Beryl is projected to continue westward approaching the Cayman Islands tonight and reaching Mexico’s Yucatan late Thursday evening/early Friday morning. 

 

**** DOMINICAN REPUBLIC**** 

Storm status 

  • All storm warnings have been discontinued. 
  • Only sporadic rain is affecting some Amstar destinations. 

 

Hotel status 

  • All guests remained in their original hotels; no evacuations were needed.   

 

Airport status 

  • All airports are operating normally.  

 

Amstar Staff  

  • Hotel representatives are on duty and assisting customers. 
  • Amstar airport staff are at the airport ready to welcome and transport customers, both arriving and departing.  
  • Office staff are on duty and assisting customers. 

 

Excursions/Activities 

  • Most excursions have resumed operations. 

 

This is the last advisory for the Dominican Republic.   

 

 

**** JAMAICA**** 

 

Storm status 

  • A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica. 

Hotel status 

  • All guests will remain on property during the storm.  

 

Airport status 

  • Sangster International Airport (MBJ) remains closed. Following the hurricane, a comprehensive assessment will be conducted to determine when it is safe to resume operations. 

 

Amstar Staff 

  • As of this advisory, hotel representatives and office staff have been released to return to their homes to shelter in-place.  

 

Excursions/Activities 

  • All excursions have been suspended until further notice. 

 

 

**** MEXICO****  

  

Storm status  

  • A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula from Puerto Costa Maya to Cancun. Landfall is expected early Friday morning.

HURRICANE BERYL - Update #2  

July 2, 2024 – 06:00 PM AST  

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

 

Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 4 hurricane, continues moving across the southeastern Caribbean. It is expected to impact Jamaica on Wednesday, July 3rd, and reach the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico by Friday. It has just passed south of the Dominican Republic, leaving behind sporadic rains and winds. 

 

**** DOMINICAN REPUBLIC**** 

 

Storm status 

  • A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Dominican Republic. 
  • Sporadic rains have been occurring and continue across Amstar destinations in the Dominican Republic. 

 

Hotel status 

  • All guests remained in their original hotels; no evacuations were needed.   

 

Airport status 

  • All airports are operating normally.  

 

Amstar Staff  

  • Hotel representatives are on duty and assisting customers. 
  • Airport representatives are on duty and assisting customers. Transfer services are operating normally.  
  • Office staff are on duty and assisting customers. 

 

Excursions/Activities 

  • All excursions remain canceled until Wednesday, July 3rd. 

 

 
**** JAMAICA**** 

 

Storm status 

  • A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica. 
  • The effects of Beryl are expected to begin on Wednesday, July 3rd. 

 

Hotel status 

  • All guests will remain on property during the storm.  

 

Airport status 

 

  • Sangster International Airport will temporarily close tonight, Tuesday, July 2, at 11:59 PM. The airport will remain closed throughout Wednesday, July 3. Following the hurricane, a comprehensive assessment will be conducted to determine when it is safe to resume operations. 

 

Amstar Staff 

  • As of this advisory, hotel representatives and office staff have been released to return to their homes to shelter-in-place. 

 

Excursions/Activities 

  • Most excursions have been suspended and are expected to resume operations during the week, depending on the impact of the hurricane. 

 

 

**** MEXICO****  

  

Storm status  

  • Hurricane Beryl is still forecasted to enter the Yucatan Peninsula north of Sian Ka'an and south of Tulum Friday morning. 
  • Additional Warnings and Watches will likely be required on Wednesday.

HURRICANE BERYL - Update #1 

July 2, 2024 – 10:00 AM EDT 

Per the National Hurricane Center: 

 

Hurricane Beryl, now a Category 5 hurricane, is moving across the southeastern Caribbean and is forecast to continue moving rapidly west-northwestward during the next couple of days and turn westward by Thursday. On the forecast track, the center of Beryl will move quickly across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea today and is projected to move through the Caribbean, passing near Amstar destinations in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, and moving towards southeast Mexico this week. 

 
**** DOMINICAN REPUBLIC**** 

 

Storm status 

  • A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Dominican Republic's southern coast, from Punta Palenque westward to the border with Haiti. 
  • The effects of Beryl are expected to begin between 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Tuesday, July 2, from the Altagracia area (Bavaro, Punta Cana, and Higuey) to Santo Domingo. 

 

Hotel status 

  • As of this advisory, no hotel evacuation is expected. 

 

Airport status 

 

  • All airports are currently open with no canceled flights yet.

  • Airport representatives are on duty and assisting customers. Transfer services are operating normally.  
  • Customer Service representatives will provide assistance in hotels from 8:30 AM if weather conditions allow. 
  • Office staff will assist customers remotely and are expected to resume normal operations on Tuesday, July 2nd, depending on weather conditions.

  • Most excursions are suspended until Thursday, July 4th. 

 

 

**** JAMAICA****
