Description
Head to the Montpelier Jungle Outpost
Your adventure begins with pickup from your resort lobby for a comfortable and air-conditioned ride to the 2,000-acre Montpelier jungle outpost. This former sugar cane plantation has stood here since the 18th century and is home to the ruins of a sugar factory that was built here in the early 1700s. A hidden waterfall can be found following a brief hike before you and your friends plant yourselves inside an inner tube or kayak to ride down the Great River at a relaxing pace. The river divides St. James and Hanover parishes and spawns 16 springs with some waterfalls flowing into the river. You’ll see it all as you flow by, as well as passing orchards, plantations, old factories and bridges.
Float along the Great River
You will have plenty of time on your river float, which includes a guide who will explain the sights along the river. The guide will also carry a cooler of Red Stripe beer and bottled water to quench your thirst as the river surrounds you. Along the river is a jungle outpost with souvenirs and locally made trinkets, and you will easily be able to stop and do a little shopping. And do not worry; your guide will make sure your purchases will be dry when you return to your resort.
