Find more about Weather in Trelawny, JM

Birthplace of the great Usain Bolt and important producer of rum, Trelawny is a parish in northwest Jamaica. Located just 18 miles to the east of Montego Bay, the parish capital Falmouth is considered to be one of the Caribbean’s best preserved Georgian towns.

From the 1840s until present day, Trelawny has played an important role in the Jamaican economy. It was and still is one of Jamaica’s busiest ports.  In former times, ships could be seen arriving with slaves stolen from Africa, while others were being loaded with sugar, rum and spices to be shipped off to Europe and the United States. Today, Falmouth is home to Jamaica's busiest cruise ship port and welcomes thousands of tourists every year. Hundreds of ships stop into Falmouth, including visitors traveling aboard the world’s largest cruise ship.

Today, Trelawny continues to produce sugar and rum, with tourism playing an increasingly more important role in the local economy. Its geographical location makes it a great place from which to organize tours to the Martha Brae River or Chukka Caribbean's Good Hope plantation.
