Exercising is one of the main recommendations for leading a healthy life. In Puerto Vallarta, there are several sporting activities available, and one of the most outstanding is biking. A new initiative has been launched recently to promote physical activity among the people living or traveling to this tourist destination: bike tours! I consider them to be an excellent opportunity for sharing time with your family in a fun and healthy way.
Each Wednesday, a large group of cyclists gathers at night at the entrance to Marina Vallarta to begin their biking tour. They ride along the main avenue of the city, Francisco Medina Ascencio, passing by the main tourist attractions and finish at the Malecón esplanade.
This nightly bike tour is the result of an initiative created completely by citizens who wanted to have something like this in their city for different reasons. There are those who wish to improve the urban infrastructure, promoting the creation of a bike path that goes from Sayulita to Boca de Tomatlán. There are also those who want bicycles to replace cars as the main means of transportation. And there are those who simply wish to go out and ride their bikes for a while.
Another bike tour is also done on Sunday mornings, for those who prefer to exercise by daylight. Both tours are carried out carefully, occupying only one lane so motorized vehicles can drive normally on the other lane of the avenue. In addition, bikers are protected by traffic officers and police cars.
If you wish to join our bike tours, there are free bicycles available to enjoy Puerto Vallarta while exercising a bit. Contact the Amstar representative in your hotel or email us for more information on how to join this simple, yet fun (and cheap!) tour in Puerto Vallarta.
Basic recommendations for cyclists are to bring your bike in good conditions, to wear a protective helmet, and use reflectors.
