You’ve heard horror stories from your neighbor’s friend’s vacation, read terror stories in blogs and forums but we’re here to set the record straight. Yes, arriving into the Cancun International Airport can be a little daunting, we understand, but it’s much easier than you think, trust us. We’ll share some insider tips to make this a smooth landing and get you to your vacay spot as soon as possible.
1.- Conveyer belts
The best advice here is taking a little patience as a carry-on. As people make their way off the plane, your airline will be taking care of putting your belongings in conveyor belts. The plus side is that the Cancun Airport is very manageable and you should find your airline’s spot quickly. Be sure to take very colorful, easy-to-identify bags or add something that will help you spot your bags quickly. And just wait until they come to you.
During your flight, you will receive a customs form which needs to be filled out before you land. After passing through immigration and collecting your bags, you will proceed to exit. Flash out your BEST and biggest smile and have the customs form and passport ready to present to customs officials. A member of your party will press a button on what looks like a traffic light. A green light means you’re set to go, red means an official will perform a quick inspection.
3.- It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity
When descending from the airplane you will indubitably feel a rush of heat, especially when leaving the air-conditioned plane but don’t worry, it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity. Come prepared: wear layers for the trip so that you will end up with comfortable, light clothing when you arrive to Cancun. Take out your sunglasses and nifty hat for that “I’m finally in Cancun” Instagram Selfie.
4.- A taxi, timeshare or pre-booking?
Upon your arrival, you will walk past several transport service providers, taxi drivers and timeshare offers in the case you wish to spend time comparting rates and services. By pre-booking your airport transfer prior to your arrival, you will have the certainty and security that a familiar face will be waiting for you. With this certainty, just keep walking straight, say “no gracias” and head straight for the door. We’ll be there waiting for you just past the crystal sliding doors.
5.- But where do I find you?
Keep walking until you reach the parking lot where your Amstar representative will be waiting for you. Finding your rep is easy. Once you walk outside the door you will see representatives from several different transportation companies. Like Amstar, they’re waiting to take their clients to their destinations in Cancun and the Riviera Maya. To find your Amstar representative, just look for the smiling face and the blue-flowered Amstar uniform.
6.- Shuttle, private or deluxe
