An easy going, fun, eco-adventure day. Travel up the coast to La Ventanilla, a small Cooperative Community Project where a group of approximately 25 families are dedicated to an environmental rescue program which includes reforesting mangroves & repopulating the region with endangered crocodiles.
Climb into wooden canoes & paddle through the mangrove jungle lagoons, home to hundreds of crocs. Keep your eyes open for glimpses of beautiful tropical birds living in their natural habitat too!!Next is Mazunte, another small coastal community & home to the National Turtle Research Center.
Years ago, the beaches here were the backdrop for the turtle & turtle egg trade, which has since become illegal. Now the Center & Museum researches, breeds & displays a variety of live turtles & fish and has created a culture of conservation in the area. Virtually every species of sea turtle comes to these shores to lay their eggs.
A stop at Cosmetico Naturales de Mazunte, a local community enterprise producing environmentally friendy cosmetics is followed by free time for lunch & a swim.
